Professor Yuh-Lang Lin was born in Fang-Liao, Ping-Tong, Taiwan. He obtained his PhD in meteorology from Yale University in 1984. Currently, he is the senior scientist for the NOAA ISET Center and a professor for the Dept. of Physics and the Energy & Environ. Studies Program of North Carolina A&T State University (http://mesolab.us; email: ylin@ncat.edu). Prof. Lin is an atmospheric dynamicist and modeler. In the past 30 years or so, he has been heavily involved in theoretical and numerical modeling studies of atmospheric phenomena, including typhoons, hurricanes, mountain meteorology, moist convection, gravity waves, forest fires, wake vortices, and Martian atmospheric circulation. He has published an advanced graduate textbook entitled "Mesoscale Dynamics" (Cambridge, 2007) and more than 90 research papers. He has also served as editor for atmospheric science journals, organizer or committee member for national and international conferences, and delivered invited talks worldwide, including Taiwan, US, England, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, La Reunion, etc. In addition, he has devoted some of his own time to investigate the topographic effects on typhoon tracks and rainfall in Taiwan. Prof. Lin has been actively involved in the Taiwanese public affairs, including TAA, FAPA, TAASE Summer Camps, and the NATPA 1996-97 President.
